Nayland Blake: Behavior

Gorge and Misbehavior
Friday, January 9, 2009
6pm - Gorge / 8pm - Misbehavior
Free Admission

Performers: Eileen Myles, Brina Thurston, Chris Cochrane, Lauren Silberman, Nina Katchadourian
Curated by Nayland Blake
Please join us this Friday, January 9th for the second night in a series of performances responding and reacting to BEHAVIOR, the current exhibition by Nayland Blake. At 6pm Blake will reenact his notorious performance, "Gorge," a one-hour event in which the artist will sit shirtless in front of a table full of food from which the audience is encouraged to feed him.

During the course of his 25-year survey BEHAVIOR, Nayland Blake has curated three nights of performances. The first took place on December 17 and featured Rob Fitterman, Robert Gluck, Sarah Schulman, Carmelita Tropicana and Dominic Vine. On each of these nights, five artists, musicians and authors have been selected by Blake to react to his work in a performance setting. The second evening in this series, this Friday, January 9, will be spectacular--showcasing additional performer-reactors, with an intermission after "Gorge". The final Misbehavior, promises to be a grand finale, full of surprises. Be prepared to see interpretations of Blake’s work by artists such as Zeena Parkins, Carolee Schneemann, and Lynn Tillman. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated, 100-page catalogue—to appear in early January 2009—with an Introduction by the show’s curator, Maura Reilly, and catalogue entries by Nayland Blake and Reilly.
